2003 Club Car running very slow
I am new to golf carts and this forum but I can handle most mechanical problems.
This problem started when I turned the key on and nothing happened when I pressed the accelerator. After waiting a few hours it seemed to work OK. Now it is running slow and it struggles to climb a slight incline. I tried the "speed sensor test" and I felt no resistance nor did the runnaway alarm sound. My serial no has an "AA" prefix. Where is the speed sensor and how do you replace it? I looked on the non shaft end of the motor but saw nothing. I need help. Is this likely the speed sensor and if so what is the process for replacing it? Thanks |

. . . you probably have a 48v Powerdrive system, which has no speed sensor on the motor . . . I'd start testing batteries and their cells . . . also connections to be sure they are clean and tight . . .

I checked connections and batteries. All connections appear to be OK and battery voltage is 49v (open circuit)and all cells seem to be OK.

. . . 49v is only about 60% charge capacity . . see below chart . . try charging batteries and test all cell's specific gravity and post readings here . . . have to start somewhere and batteries have to be proven good or bad first . . .

Re: 2003 Club Car running very slow
I just finished a full charge and the open circuit voltage is 51.52v. each battery reads 8.61v or 8.63v. I don't have anyway to check the specific gravity. I am looking down the speed control sequence to the MCOR. Could this be the problem and how do you check it?

Re: 2003 Club Car running very slow
When you say you just finished a charge what does that mean? That pack should be at about 65 volts at end of charging and then will slowly leak down over several hours.
Try putting your test leads on the pack and then drive the cart and see what it drops to. I would suspect at least one bad bat or more. How old are they and are they 12 volts or 8 volt bats? |

Pack had set for over 12 hours when this reading was taken. They are 8 volt bats and are only about 14 months old but we only use the cart for 5 months in the winter. I really don't think the bats are bad, but who knows.

Re: 2003 Club Car running very slow
Well Guys --- I load checked all of the batteries and all were excellent. Next I purchased a new MCOR and replaced it. No change. Still running slow
, just like before. Any suggestions on where I go from here. It looks to me that the next item in line is the controller, but I hate to spend the money until I am pretty sure that it is the culprit. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks |
