Default How to properly break in my batteries with snow on the ground?

Hello all, I just bought a 2002 DS with bad batteries. After reading as many posts on here as possible, thank you btw! I know I need to break my new batteries in properly but I am in NH & we still have snow on the ground. I won't be able to drive the cart much for a few weeks until the snow is gone let alone get it down to 50% before recharging. I want to replace the batteries & drive the cart now so I can make sure there are no other issues before I need it in the spring. So what should I do? Is it OK to fully charge the pack & drive it for a little to test everything out then let it sit for a while so the batteries dissapate then recharge or drive & recharge right away?

sounds like you have spring fever !! LOL

from what i've read "only recharge it when it is at 50%"
so if you just test it and then let it sit it will be ok
then again id take it out in the snow and have fun ... of course im in sunny FL .. lol

Battery Break-in Procedures
Brand new batteries are approximately 70 to 75% charged so once they are installed (correctly) the 1st 10 to 12
complete charge/discharge cycles are as follows:
1. Plug charger in and leave it alone until charger shuts off by itself then drive cart to
about 50% battery life
and plug back in and repeat charge cycle.
2. Very important you leave it charge until it’s completely done! This is what you want to do 10 to 12 times
......by the 12th time you’ll notice a difference in power/speed and runtime.
3. That’s the break in period pretty simple wouldn’t you say..........while doing this keep an eye on water level
as I have seen it take 16 hours or better the 1st few times as they break in you’ll notice charge time gets less
also.
4. After that the 2nd most important thing is maintaining the batteries........very critical you get into a routine
of spending a whole 20 minutes a few times a month to keep things in good/clean and tight condition to get
a lot more time out of your batteries.

i see no ONLY MY BAD

I guess if you need to run it down you could jack it up and run it for a while

Running the cart on stands can allow the motor to over-rev due to lack of rolling resistance. Extreme RPMs can grenade a motor in short order. Centrifugal force is the enemy of the windings.......

Ok, you don't have to run it down to 50% before you recharge, you just don't want to run it below 50% before you charge,, if you run the cart for 10 minutes and your done riding for the day, charge it, let it charge till the charger turns off by it's self,, if you take it out for another 10 min ride charge it again,, if it sits for a week with out using the cart, charge it again,, never unplug the charger before it is finished

My 2 cents worth , i am in same boat do not buy the batts now . wait till closer to spring , then you will have no worries breaking them in

Thanks for all the reply's, I ordered my batteries yesterday since my distributor didn't have the ones I wanted in stock. When they come in next week I'm going to run them after charging just to make sure everything else is ok with the cart. I'll keep the cart on the charger after until I'm ready to use it again. Not sure if the charger will kick on again once voltage lowers but I'll keep an eye on voltage.
