Slow '06 Precedent - Need advise
A lady (single) in my neighborhood has an '06 Precedent 48v.
She was complaining to my wife that her cart would barely run and she was afraid to drive anywhere. My wife told her I would fix it. Here's the history thus far. Problem started about a month ago. One of the other men added water to her batteries. She keeps it on the charger anytime she is not using it, and if I understand the PowerDrive2 correctly, this should keep her cart charged. I went over an picked up the cart. It drove a lot slower than my RXV, and it got really slow on the hills, but it didn't stop. Here's what I have found. Cart has 4-12v Batteries- US Battery 12V XC - 155 amp hrs, 75 amp hours @ 70 amps, 292 amp hours at 50 amps. They are stamped D0 X Pack Voltage - 50.0 Batteries as follows: 1-12.55v, 2-12.49v. 3-12.51, 4-12.52 Fair amount of corrosion on the cables and post. I have cleaned and greased all the cables and post. I currenty have it charging on the PowerDrive2 model 22110 that can with the cart. It started charging at about 9volts and dropped to 5 amps after about 30 minutes. I plan on getting it to a full charge, checking the voltages again, let it set for 12 hours and check the voltages. Here's my questions: What speed should this cart with stock wheels run (I would guess it is doing around 8-12 mph? Am I correct in assuming these batteries are original equipment? What should I check next? |

Re: Slow '06 Precedent - Need advise
MiltonC I own a 2007 Precedent everything stock but 6inch lift with 12 inch wheels
23 inch tires my cart does 18mph. I would hook a meter up and run the cart with a full charge and see if the volts drop are see what it drops to with your foot on the pedal then post it back on here let the BGW people view your readings. Check the stickys and view the thread about checking the speed sensor could be your troubles was on my cart. I can say with my cart stock before the wheels and lift I was doing better on speed than you posted. |

Re: Slow '06 Precedent - Need advice
OK, it took about 7 hrs to fully charge the batteries. I was checking every hour or so.
When I found the battery charger shut off I measured the voltages again. I'm not sure how long the charger had been off. I know these values are too high, but this is what my volt meter showed: Pack voltage - 53.4 1-13.36 2-13.32 3-13.32 4-13.28 Went for about a 1 mile drive with the headlights on at top speed. Local radar trap showed 16-18 mph and it looks like the speed is much better. Let it set 10 minutes after the run and measured voltages again. Pack voltage - 50.0 1-12.52 2-12.48 3-12.50 4-12.48 Looks like the pack pulled down to 80% too quick to me, but I am used to the AC RXV and I'm not sure. I also did the check on the speed sensor and it is functioning fine. Plan on charging over night, checking the voltage in the morning, and hook up the meter and take it for a ride. Any advice on what speed or how long I need to ride while recording the pack voltage? |

Re: Slow '06 Precedent - Need advise
Update:
Plugged the charger in about 2100 hrs last night and let the cart charge overnight. The charger was kicked out this morning at 0900 when checked. Following Voltages were taken: Pack: 49.8 1-12.46 2-12.47 3-12.44 4-12.44 Hooked up my meter to the pack voltage and drove around the neighborhood for 2 passes roughly 3.5 miles and observed the following voltages at full throttle. Pass 1 Pass 2 Slight up hill: 46.1 45.6 Flat: 46.1 45.6 Big Hill: 44.2 43.3 Moderate Hill: 45.4 ---- Let the cart set 10 minutes and checked voltages: Pack: 49.1 1- 12.32 2- 12.24 3- 12.31 4- 12.29 I think the battery pack needs to be replaced as she let the water get low and it appears to me it no longer holds a full charge but only around 80% and after a short 3 miles run it is down to 60%. Before I give her this advice I would like to get a second opinion. Also, if she keeps the batteries charged and full of water, how long do you think they might last in this condition. Most of her runs are very short - less than 2 1/2 miles. Any advice is appreciated. |

Any Advice? Do you agree that she needs to replace the batteries?
