80s Club Car
I am going to look at an 80s Club Car tonight. That was the description I got. He said it needs new batteries, a steering box, and has no charger. It is a 36 volt and I would convert to 48 volt anyway. What is the difference in the 80s Club Car and what do i need to look for to see if it will work my time. I want to lift, paint and upgrade controller and motor. So, I think this would be a good project. i just dont want it to be so far gone that I cant work on it. What should I look for? I think they changed in 84 correct? What would be a difference in th 84-92 and the 92 and up?

Re: 80s Club Car
Thats what I was thinking. Just want to make sure it is a good platform to start from and be worth anything when Im done. Im thinking of putting about $3000 in it including batteries and charger.

Re: 80s Club Car
My first CC was a 84 gasser. Paid $1200, pimped it up a little and sold it for $2500. I think it's a good year and the frame should be A-OK cause it's a CC..unless there's battery acid damage issues.

Re: 80s Club Car
I know I`m going to get slammed for this BUT theres over $100 worth of scrap aluminum in that chassis alone. Old Yeller here is an 84 and I just love it!!

Re: 80s Club Car
BTW I just scrapped a 79 out. there is not over $100 in aluminum in the frame and related parts at the prices I got. I also scrapped out the copper wires and the batteries. I was given the cart for hauling it away though.
You will have a hard time fixing steering box. better off to convert it to a later style rack and pinion, if it is an early one. From what i could tell frames were pretty much the same. check closely on the 3 pedals if it has that to be sure they move freely. it cna be a pita to get them free again. -Aaron |
