So how bad will it be? Lifted resistor cart?

So I am really questioning if I should bother with my plan so I figured I'd put it out here to all you knowledgable folks. I have a clean 2002 DS resistor cart, I am replacing the batteries & went with 36v because I can't afford the solid state upgrade to go 48v at the moment. We are going to use the cart for camping & have to install a back seat for the kids. I want to lift the cart as well but after reading a bunch of threads around here I am starting to get concerned about the performance or lack of. I'm not overly concerned about run time since I can charge the cart at my site as needed but worried about the hills at the campground with the rear seat & lift. I could sell it & try to find a gasser or 48v cart I know but at least with this one I know what I have. So, will it make it up the hills? Top out at an impressive 5mph or will my poor wife be pushing me up the hills while everyone points & laughs?

The weak spot will be you always use full power even when crawling along to keep the kids from falling off. Keep in mind some camp grounds don't allow gas carts.

I know, the campgrounds that do allow carts don't care if they are gas or electric but if we start camping at other campgrounds I wouldn't want to worry. Sticking with electric is a safe bet. I don't understand what you mean by full power even when crawling? Do you mean just the nature of a resistor cart using full amperage regardless of throttle position?

I have done many of lifts on 36v resister carts and no longer do because they constantly burn up vglides. It's just too much with all that weight, in the dirt, and high amps on the v glide that they melt quickly. A lot of times the wiper and contact weld themselves together and that can cause a serious accident too.

I retrieved a cart that was half way into the kitchen via the garage wall one time .... melted the speed wiper and welded the contacts, the brakes were no match for the motor.

Really?? I didn't know I had to worry about the V glide melting down at 36 volts?

On those carts you have the amps running through the v glide itself, so pushing big tires with a heavy load your going to be running every last amp through that v glide and that causes them to melt. Lower volts higher the amps and vice versa. Now the 36v carts with controllers are a whole different story...your not running high amps through v glide just volts

The cart I mentioned was 36v, an older heavy western cart. The house was on top of a pretty good hill... the speed wiper welded coming up the hill. They didn't know it until they topped out and headed into the garage.

Well the one campground we spend a week in every year some decent hills, it would be the place I use the cart the most.
