1997 Club Car 48v School me please!

So I picked up a 97 48 volt cart.

Things I know so far:

1) serial number = A9724-577166

2) must be a series cart has no run/tow switch and no coils only 1 solenoid

3) has v-glide


Things I want to know

Upgrades and things I have not listed

1) what is the silver looking amp thing mounted near the motor? controller?

2) I want to add lights, radio, so-forth ect. How do I connect a 48v to 12v reducer.

3) whats this I hear about a variable resistor to replace the v-glide, can this be done on this cart?

4) I have a battery light on the dash... what is it? can I replace it with a digital read out?

5) tell me the tips/tricks to this cart please

1) Yes
2) Wire input wires to positive and negative leads on pack, then connect accessories. Not all reducers are the same, which one do you have?
3) Have not heard of this
4) It's an "idiot" light. It basically indicates a pack discharged below 25% (I think), or an irregular charge cycle. It is connected to the OBC, and does not have voltage reading of pack. You can pop it out and put in a digital one, but you will have to run your own leads from the pack.
5) Make sure key is on, put shift lever in desired position and GO

Ok it appears that that reducer has four wires coming out. Two go to the pos and neg of the pack, and the other two go to the pos and neg of your accessories. Did it come with any instructions?

I do not have it yet.

But.... this is printed on one side... kinda confusing.. And I know electronic schematics.. bad drawing if you ask me

Ok, the red goes to the positive of battery pack. Black wire to negative of battery pack. The yellow wire 'Ts' into the red wire somewhere and ran through a switch of some sort to shut it off when you dont want the converter on. The green output wire goes to the positive of your accessory. Then just ground your accessory back to the negative of battery pack.

. . . the YELLOW wire may be the "trigger" wire that would be connected to "cold" side of keyswitch and would turn on the reducer when the key is placed in "on" position . . .

Thanks guys, so we the converter/reducer covered, and the idiot light...

On to the other stuff... How does this cart work and what mods can be done to it?

I know about the cables and the F-n-R switch what else could be done to get better performance, longer run times, and overall bullet proof-ness out of it?

I do not plan to lift it, I just want a good solid cart that runs well. I do not want to through money at it to make it fast but if there is an upgrade that is better then stock I want to know about it.

I would make sure you use the trigger wire its a very nice option to have, the only problem is if you have a radio and save presets they will be lost everytime you turn it off.

Get with Scotty B on here he sells the potentiometer to get ride of the V-glide, but confused on how you have a V-glide and a controller
