48 Volt Club Car Problem
Hi all. Newbie here with a problem. My boss brought a 1997 48V Club Car to me today because it won't move. He put all new batteries and cables on it but it still won't go. When the go pedal is pushed 1 of the solenoids click but no movement. It has 2 solenoids on it. I checked for voltage at the motor and both terminals with the heavy cable has 50.2 volts, the smaller wired terminals has 12.8 volts until the go pedal is pushed then it drops to under 2 volts. The 2 larger terminals drop voltage also when the pedal is pushed drops to 25v and slowly comes back to 50.2 when the pedal is released. if I jump the first solenoid across the 2 large terminals or hook the pos. cable from the battery to the other side the cart will run. I checked voltage on the small wires and 1 has 50v all the time and the other small 1 has 50v but when I push the pedal down it drops to 0.8 v. Is the solenoid bad? I work on dozers and excavators and don't know much about golf carts. Any direction will be appreciated! Thanks!

Re: 48 Volt Club Car Problem
How did the cart run before the bossman got a hold of it?? If it was running fine and he just did a pack upgrade... I would say, look real close for a wire that has gotten away from him and he is overlooking...

Re: 48 Volt Club Car Problem
Thanks for the quick reply. He said it quit running and 3 batteries were bad so he put 6 new ones in and replaced all the cables. I checked the connections at the batteries and that is all good. It will only run if I jump across the 1st solenoid. the other solenoid clicks when the pedal is pushed but I get nothing from the 1st one that the positive battery cable hooks to, no click from that one.

Re: 48 Volt Club Car Problem
From cartsunlimited.net FAQ
Solenoid Testing The solenoid has to be activated to make contact across the 2 large terminals. The small terminals are the activation circuit. When + is applied to one small terminal and - is applied to the other small terminal the solenoid is energized and the contact is made across the large terminals. It seems you have a bad solenoid |
