AC Conversion
Hello
I've been lurking for awhile and now I'm getting the urge to tinker. I'm really happy with my cart's performance since changing to a Plum Quick Bandit motor and 8:1 gears. (see more specs below), but I would like to get more miles per charge. I've just put in new Trojan 875 batteries and am breaking them in by discharging about half and recharging again, I hope they improve. Since I like to tinker and want more range, I'm considering moving to an AC motor and controller. I can recover some of the cost by reselling the PQ motor and Alltrax controller. I'm retired and have the time and do not plan on leaving a lot of money to my kids. I'm researching the project now and will welcome any comments from you experts. If I do this project, I will remove the cart's body and clean everything and maybe have it repainted by a local shop. What to you think? rgds/pjs |

Re: AC Conversion
I am looking at a complete kit for $2,300 and expect unexpected costs. Other source suggestions are very welcome.
I use my cart a lot, both for golf twice a week and pickup and delivery for my computer repair business. I live in a very large South Carolina retirement community and enjoy ambushing other carts. I really love running with the pack only to have some showoff push by with a smirk. I pull out and go get him. Hey, an old guy has to get his kicks where he can. |

Re: AC Conversion
I emailed and then spoke with a seller of AC motor kits. The serviceman was downright discouraging. He said I would not realize much range improvement. He concluded that spending $2,000+ on lithium batteries would give a better return on investment. This goes against most that I've read on AC golf carts.

Re: AC Conversion
One motor of interest is the AC-9 from HPEVS. Any BGW advertiser vendor handle that motor? The dealers listed on the HPEVS website are too far from Hilton Head, SC.

Re: AC Conversion
Call them and work with them directly - I did not work through a dealer - I had a great experience with their products and service!
