How to remove streering wheel.
How to remove the steering wheel on a 1996 Club Car golf cart. ?
I have removed the cover, and unscrewed the bolt, but the wheel is pressed into the shaft, like a car's steering wheel I tried to use an auto. steering wheel puller, however: because it is plastic there is no place to screw the bolts to the steering wheel. Is there another way? |

Re: How to remove streering wheel.
Welcome to the forum warrior26.................
I always use an Impact Wrench (Cordless) which hammers the center of the shaft while using the steering wheel puller. The puller is a device that grabs the steering wheel behind the plastic, close to the shaft as possible. Use some penetrating fluid, let it soak over night, and Tap the center of the shaft with a punch or something that won't flatten the end where the threads are, while pulling on the wheel. Other folks have other ways that work too. |

Re: How to remove streering wheel.
Thanks Rusty, but what type of wheel puller did you use? The one that I leased from my auto parts store, would not work. It requied that you screw bolts into the steering wheel (that you would find on a car's wheel). The golf cart wheel does not lend itself to using this type of tool. Is there another type of puller that I can use?
Thanks |

Heard of some using a 3 jaw puller, and others make one.

Re: How to remove streering wheel.
I used a big hammer and kept beating the crap out of it and after 2 days of beating (on the steering wheel ) it finally came loose!

Two words...Saw Zaw,...that'll fix everything. J/K...I used the rubber mallet approach, BTSOI and it finally came off. I did replace the steering wheel after that and slopped a whole lot of grease up in there too.

Re: How to remove streering wheel.
very simple............. loosen the nut till its flush with the end of the threaded steering shaft than while sitting on the cart put your feet up on dash use your knees to apply pressure towards you on the steering wheel and give a good whack with a hammer and wheel will pop loose than finish unscrewing the nut.......you leave the nut on flush so you don,t damage any threads when you hit it with a hammer..................................
