A good rule of thumb too!
I hate to see new batteries and old corroded cables!

Kinda like repainting a fence when the gate is broken.

I appreciate all the help - I charged it, and ran it some today, but still feels like batteries are low. I am going to replace cables next weekend. I'll let you know what happens

Thanks
jim

Can you post some readings from the batteries?

all were ~5.85 Volts, except for the new one it was >6. I'm on road this week, so I don't have exact readings. Thanks for your help - Jim

As a rule of thumb for deep cycle batteries each cell and each battery when all the ( 3 cells for 6 Volt ) and (4 cells for 8 volt) should read at 105% of the batteries rating at full charge. Anything less and Your batteries are slowley dieing or the charger is not putting out enough Voltage to get them to 100%. 5.85 Volts is BAD

Here is a link which may help . chart is at the bottom.
