Rear wheels dragging in 2005 DS?
This is my friends 2005 electric Club Car DS. With the rear wheels jacked up, I can move the rear wheels with effort. You certainly can't spin them enough by hand to have them spin on their own. If you get the wheels spinning with the motor, then release the accelerator, they coast for just a second and stop pretty abruptly.
I tried loosening the nut on the brake balancer to make sure the brakes aren't dragging. He has been reporting a bit slower performance, worse battery life and a bit of squeaking come from the wheels. Any ideas on things that should be checked? Or is it normal for the rear wheels to be turned by hand but only with firm effort? |

Also, don't run the motor with it jacked up for too long, because it will actually burn it up. It needs to have a load on it. |

Pull the drums off, back off the self adjusters and you should be fine, to prevent, use hi-temp brake grease on the key lube spots on the brake mechanisms. And replace the self-adjusters each time you do a brake job.

Re: Rear wheels dragging in 2005 DS?
Thank you gentlemen. I took the drums off, one with some difficulty, and one quite easily. I twiddled the ratchet looking wheel to draw up the brake shoes, and the drum went back on more easily. I also felt like the hub turned more easily than before.
After putting rims back on and taking a test run, my friend said it felt faster and quieter, like it did in the past. I'm not sure if we did the right adjustment, but wanted to make a follow up post for posterity. You can see the ratchet adjustment wheel in the photo. |
