Default Upgrade Cable Question

I bought a roll of welding cable to make new cable out of.
The cable says #4 on it. I told the guy i wanted 4ga. I am assuming it is the same.
Anyhow, when i put the new #4 welding cable next to my existing 6ga battery cables, they are the same thickness.
Is this right? Just want to make sure i bought the right cable before i start making them.

Old cable can swell up with interior corrosion over time, and jacket thickness can vary from brand A to B what is the strand count on the new cable.
You want #4 or 4g welding cable (approx. 420 strand count) in a neoprene jacket.

I to am considering a cable upgrade. I have a reel of 2/0 welders cable and luggs at home I don't need. Would that be beneficial over buying #2 or would it just be overkill that takes up more room?

There is a big difference in the strand count between low and high amperage cable, Strip it back an inch and start counting..... if you get to 200 and your only half way through = you got the good stuff
