You need to either install a voltage reducer to generate 12V or get a separate 12V battery. I personally would go with the reducer.

Whether you decide on a voltage reducer, or a separate 12V battery, you need 12V unless the electrical component is designed to be compatible with more voltage.

So the 12 volt reducer will fix the problem?

JET,

Think ahead... What all will you be using on the cart? I started out just wanting a stereo. Then an acc outlet, then running lights, then underglow lights... I wanted to run lights for the parades in the neighborhood....
Ended up with a $125 36v/48v to 12v 30amp reducer. Turns on with the key so it's not always on and so far it powers everything.
Or some people on here run 12v acc batteries. Just a battery to charge.
Really your choice.

Look up "Golf Cart Voltage Reducer" or better yet talk to the sponsors her on the site. Scottyb I believe carries them and he's an good guy to deal with and can help you determine what you need for what you want to run....

Also, watch where you run the Power Wires for the reducer and radio. To close the carts motor can and will cause the same issue

I just helped a neighbor with the same problem, first off you need to run radio on 12volts not 16 volts, second if it does it on radio and not cd or ipod then you can install an amplified fm antanee to boost the signal and it should solve your problem.
