Default Battery advice

I need to buy some batteries 6 6v to be exact. I'm new to electric so I don't want to get taken to the cleaner. What should I be looking for in a battery I'm sure it's not cca like my truck batteries, is it amps or discharge? Just not sure anyway what are good brands to be looking for? Also I have a fork lift company near by that some friends work at and the pmi schedule on their electric lifts are strict and they replace batteries regularly, would it be worth it to me to try and get some of these used ones for cheap or should I just pay the money or more like wait to get the money then pay for it lol.? Just a little lost as to the best route to go. Thanks in advance you guys are always helpful.

Capacity is in Amp-Hours. You need batteries designed for Golf Carts.

Hello,

I asked this question some time ago and it really turned into a Ford Vs. Chevy thing. Some people swear by the Trojan battery saying it is worth the extra expense and some people are perfectly ok with the cheaper golf cart batteries.

When it really comes down to it ... the 8v Duracell battery sold as Sam's club is $99 (6v - $84). I was quoted $125 for the 8v Trojan battery. For me, its worth the extra $25 per battery especially considering that the Trojan battery is the industry standard.

i have found that alot depends on what you do with your cart
but basically the batteries are deep cycle meaning they can be drained and recharged often

weekend player ?? cheap will work Power Tron 6 volt (P2200) $466.98 set
everyday driver ?? go the best Trojan 6 volt (T-105)$557 set

also i would get a set of wires with new batteries

don't forget to follow the break in for new batteries !!!

I am in NY. The cheapest quote I have gotten is $163 each (160miles away)... crazy. There is only one distributor near me and they quoted me $175

There are a lot of good batteries out there nowadays, but just getting a "Trojan" battery might not meet your needs you also need to get the right "model" for your needs. Trojan makes several different 6V's for carts that in a nut shell differ by run-time and $$$. The longer the run-time, the more $$$ and the heavier the battery will be. You cant compare the price of a 58lb battery with one that weighs 72lbs. Weight is KING in lead batteries, the more lead the longer the run times.

Really look hard at your run time needs and what you'll be doing with it. Also look at charts of battery drop off rates to see if your ok with the drop off rate.

I just replaced my old Trojan T-605's (super affordable) on Friday with their longest running battery T-145's (mega expensive) but it will work so much better for my needs than the 605's did.

Also "ScottyB" is another great resource on this forum & he's taught me volumes and he's a great guy who's willing to help where he can.

Here's a great sticky on this forum comparing different battery brands, weights & run-times: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/showthread.php?t=1296
