Hey Folks,
I am making a return to the Cart World. After selling my 1999 Club Car Gasser about a year ago, I decided to get another one, an electric one this time around to be able to bring it with us when camping.

I ordered the Cart from a reputable dealer and they offer to install the wheels, lift kit and light kit free of charge, so although i like wrenching, saving a few hours is great!

My main use will be around campgrounds and some trail riding nearby.

Here are some questions I have:

- I read there are 3 speed setting and 2 take off settings, how do I change these?

- Would a PQ motor kill my range?

- Is there any seat-belt options for these carts? I have a 3 year old and could benefit from a seat belt!

Thanks in advance and it's great to be back! I will add pictures once I take delivery of the Cart. I added RHOX vegas 12 inch wheels with Mojave Rubber and will be painting it Black and Baby Blue with a few PUMA logo's! Should be sweet!

Is your cart a 2006 DS or Precedent?
I only know of the 4 speed codes, with 19.6 mph being the fastest.
I do know they make seat belt kits because they are a requirement for street legal carts.

Same question - Precedent or DS? I did the same thing, sold my old DS gasser and bought an 06 electric for camping. As far as I know, there are only 4 speed settings with the 4th one requiring a programming code to be purchased from club car. All of the settings are changed with a programmer, there is nothing that is switchable on the cart to change the speed settings. The larger wheels will give you an extra mph or so over whatever you would get with stick wheels. Hopefully the dealer will check out your battery pack, etc. and you will just have to maintain it from there. That's the one thing to get used to when changing from gas to electric is learning to maintain the batteries and doing it in a regular basis. Always keep a jug of distilled water and a funnel handy.

You didn't say if it comes with new batteries or what year the batteries are. If it is a precedent, it likely has 4 12v batteries. If it doesn't have new batteries, the ones it could possibly be 08 batteries as there was a recall on them and 08's were often used to replace the originals. If that's the case, you may need new ones soon. I just replaced mine this year. The 12v batts, especially on a golf course retiree, usually only last 4 or 5 years.

If it is a precedent with 12v batts, make sure the dealer doesn't use the default light kit setup that powers the lights off of one of the pack batteries. It will kill that battery quicker which will, in turn, kill your pack quicker.

If not a precedent, I guess I just typed all that for nothing.

Sorry I should have been more accurate. it is a Precedent and the batteries are about 2 years old, however if needed I am ready to replace them, doing this right this time around!. We are spoiled here in Ontario to have a franchised dealer who also is a top aftermarket seller. I will not name the shop since I don't know if they are site sponsors or not, but they are great, tons and tons and tons of aftermarket stuff for carts! That being said, the light kit they are throwing on is very aftermarket, but I will be sure to check the connection method!

Yeh check that. If you are committed to doing it right, a switched reducer or dedicated battery is the way to go for lights and accessories. Having 12v batteries in the pack makes it very tempting to use them for that stuff but it is not the way to go.

Thanks for the heads up! I may be tapping into more experienced Cart Guys once I have the cart in the Garage!

How do these speed codes work? Should I ask the dealer to put it in Code 3 right away?

Depending on dealer, you may get charged to change to any speed code. Keep in mind, the higher the speed code, the shorter the run time on the batteries, per charge. I just left mine as I got it - probably code 2, and added the larger tires and it's plenty fast for my use. The campground we go to has speed bumps galore, so doesn't do any good to have it set to go too fast. Other than that, I just cruise my neighborhood at home. But, sure, if they'll do it for free and they have the programmer, get them to bump it up. If they are going to charge you, I'd ask how much more to get code 4.

If they do tap a 12v battery for the lights, at least get them to show you how it's hooked up so you'll know where to look if you decide to change it later. Another pain in the butt with that setup is that when the pack starts to get weak, the lights will go dim on you when you hit the accel pedal. And, eventually, the lights will stop working even though the cart will still go. I had mine setup that way at first. Then I added a radio to it and the radio would turn off when hitting the pedal as well. So, I just rewired straight to a dedicated spare battery in the bagwell. Now the lights and radio last longer per charge than the cart will run.

I just want to make sure I understand, is the dedicated light and radio battery charged through the cart or do you manually charge it? I had a similar set-up in my wakeboard boat where I had a starting battery and deep-cycle charged through the alternator and then a spare deep-cycle which I charged manually.

Let me know what you did... maybe pics of your battery set-up would be key as well!

Somewhere back in time, I posted a thread showing my battery setup. A search by my ID should find it. But, no, it doesn't charge with the pack. I put a quick connector on the battery that stays on it all the time. When I plug the cart in, I plug the other charger in. Depending on use, the extra battery doesn't have to be charged as often as the cart.
