Default DS Hill Brake

Re: 2001 Club Car DS 48 Volt Hill Brake.

My hill brake no longer works. The overall brakes work just fine but when I push in the emergency brake nothing happens.

I attached a photo I found online. I would like to just change out the whole thing with a kit.

I haven't ordered the kit yet and I tried to unscrew the top bolt (in the photo) just to see how difficult it would be to remove the bolt and I couldn't get that bolt to budge and it kind of felt like if I torqued down on that bolt any harder I would break my whole ACCEL. PIVOT ROD http://www.golfcartpartsdirect.com/e...tshow/212.html

Do any of you have a suggestion on how to remove and replace the hill brake? any instructions online? or a video?

Thanks for any advise you can give me.

Mike.

Still brainstorming on the issue. I'm hoping someone out there has worked on the parking brake / hill brake. Hoping there might be instructions out there, how to remove and replace or a video related to the parking brake.

Thanks.

Mike,

I have adjusted mine one time, how do you know it's broke? Did somthing just come loose or needs adjustment?

It's just a matter of taking it apart figuring out how it works the putting back together or replacing what is broke.

Good luck...

There are two bolts under there on a threaded rod. They adjust the brake pedal and park brake. The two bolts are right near the bracket that the each brake cable goes to from each rear wheel. Just play with those bolts until you get it right. Then make sure they are snugged together, or they will loosen and come out of asjustment...

Here is the thread I started when I was having a problem:

My cart was actually missing the spring, I had to get a new one, but the two bolts are right near that spring. Just look at the pics...

Thanks for the input guys. When I look at the hill brake it looks perfectly fine but when I apply the parking break nothing grabs. Perhaps it's just an adjustment?

I tried to unscrew that top bolt (photo #21) and it wont budge. Perhaps I'm trying to loosen the wrong bolt? Also, my "Go" peddle works but it does have some play in it.

Regarding that bolt #21 it also feels like if I torque down on that bolt it will break the ACCEL. PIVOT ROD # 6 so I back off.

There is an adjustment for the hill brake pawl!

After lifting, brake cable extension plates, and readjusting my pedal height,
my hill brake would only latch if I kicked it down... hard!

Basically, you need to loosen the 2 nuts on the ratchet to adjust!
As long as your pedal group bushings aren't too worn, this may work!

WOW! Where did you get that diagram?

I guess I'm having a difficult time trying to unscrew that bolt. I noticed the hill brake connects to the "GO" Pedal so when I go to loosen that bolt it torques down on the "Go" pedal assembly. I can't seem to find anything to grip on to while torquing down on that bolt? I'm also not sure what those two screws are for?

I work at a local golf course and we use CC carryalls for work vehicles and most of the time when we have trouble with the hill,( or parking brake, depending on the name called), it is caused by the bushings and part of the locking ratchet with the teeth on it worn off. you need to check these.

When I bought my cart, I bought 3 Maintenance and Service manuals, and an Illustrated Parts manual for it!

Mine was pretty easy... it took maybe 15 minutes for me to get it on the money!

Here's the full page just in case I cropped out info needed.
