Hey Phillz it's about 8mm so I think 5/16 it's brass all thread around 400mm long, it was in the bolt section standing up at the end of the isle, I put some heat shrink on the section that goes thru OBC then plastic washer either side and then nipped up cable terminal between 2 nuts on either side, only needed around 75mm but I plan on doing a few.

Most people just leave the original cable going through the obc

Members have reported on board computer trouble with the bypass or double cable method. The OBC stud kit method routes all the flow through the computer so it can monitor the flow and replenished as designed. We have seen no problems with this method. Use a 5/16ths X 3" steel or brass rod, your choice... remember all the battery posts are steel too.

But the steel post on the battery is not designed to conduct current, it only serves the purpose of keeping the copper lug tight against the large lead surface of the battery post, which is what should actually conduct the current.

The difference in money is negligible, I would definitely use brass, but be aware of those toilet bolts made in china, some are actually steel with a pretty plating.

Buy the US brass bolts from the specialty bolt/screw section of Lowes or other big box store.

I think we are splitting hairs here. I simply meant to remind people the troubles associated with the go around method of 2 negative main cables.
Build 2 identical carts and use a brass rod in one OBC and a steel rod in the other, I doubt you find a measurable performance or charging difference between the 2 of them.

I cut the brass bolts I used, they were solid.
I think it was 2.5" to fit just right, I do agree as Scotty says you won't notice the difference but long term the brass will hold up better for transferring current, better conductor less possible side affects of dissimilar metals.

Brass should be better than steel in this application.
