02 IQ 48 Volt has Lights but no reducer??
Hey guys,
Stupid question but I don't see a reducer for my cut in lights for my 02 DS IQ 6 8 volt? All the ones I've seen are behind the battery mounted to the inside of the frame. Could it be under the dash? There is a red wire that connects to the last + post that feeds the solenoid. This is the same last + post that the charger red wire connects to. This red wire also has an automotive type fuse, I guess I should follow this wire back cause I think it goes to the dash. The lights are very bright, but I blew one the other day. Thanks, Steve |

Wouldn't you have a line feeding off the positive post on the first batt and another off the negative of the last one? Are you sure there is a reducer? Some try to get away with tapping 2 8v batts to run lights. That would explain them being very bright and blowing bulbs.

Re: 02 IQ 48 Volt has Lights but no reducer??
Thanks Salt,
There is no reducer. There is just a red wire that is connected to the passenger rear batt + post, same post that feeds the solenoid. Then the passenger front batt - post has two black wires connected to it. I think it blew the bulb because the other light wire came off, to much juice one light. The tail lights work fine. Is this set up junk? Thanks, Steve |

Re: 02 IQ 48 Volt has Lights but no reducer??
If you have 8v batteries, then there are only two ways to get 12v to lights and accessories. A reducer or a dedicated 12v battery. I have the latter. Two problems with your setup. First, powering 12v lights with 16v. Have seen others say they do it but that's 33% more juice than they are designed for. Second, you are drawing power off of certain pack batteries but not the whole pack. This draws them down faster than the others, shortening their life and, in turn, shortening the whole pack's life because the other batteries are having to overcharge waiting for the ones running the lights to catch up.

Re: 02 IQ 48 Volt has Lights but no reducer??
I have an old CC DS. My reducer is mostly hidden by the flange of the chassis. One of the black wires goes to the controller on mine and the other one goes to a small wiring block that the light wiring connects to. The reducer uses two 8 volt batteries to reduce to 12 volts. It threw me off because it only has two wires, one on each end. And the fact that one goes to the controller instead of the battery pack, is confusing too. The reducer on mine is very thin and silver in color. It blends in very well to the frame.

Thanks MDLNB,
I guess I need to trace all the wires and find out were they go especially the black ones. Steve |

Take a voltage reading at your lights and see if it's 16 V or 12V. 16V will drastically shorten the life of any incandescent bulbs designed for 12V.
