Battery meter reading off
I installed Scottyb's digital battery meter in my 04 Precedent with the 4-12v setup. The batteries were 08 or 09, so they were older. It seemed as though the reading on the meter was correct. I made the switch over to the 6-8v setup and installed new Trojan T-890 batteries. I ran the cart up and down the block a few times and then put it on the charger. I checked it the next night and the meter read 49.6, not close to the 50.9 I was expecting. I ran it up and down the block again and plugged it back in yesterday afternoon. I checked it this afternoon and it read 49.5. I then got out my handheld digital meter and the reading was 50.7. I should add that my digital meter on my cart is hooked up to the keyswitch so when the key is ON the meter is ON.
My question is has anyone else had this issue with their meter? Did you find a solution? Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance! |

Re: Battery meter reading off
That may be the right voltage at the switch... The 2004 precedent manual shows a diode in series with the power feeding the switch (from solenoid red wire - diode - blue wire). Most diodes have between .7 and 1.2 forward voltage drop... What does your meter read if you measure at the back of the SOC meter?

Re: Battery meter reading off
Some key switches offer as much as .5v resistance.
If you test and find this to be the case you can just compensate what you are reading or find a better source. |

Re: Battery meter reading off
If you want the true reading with no resistance at all, connect black to main negative on pack and red to main positive on pack. It will always be on, but there will be no resistance from switches, etc.
