Default 96 club car batteries

OK guys go easy on me...my uncle bought a 96 club car 48 volt...i am a gasser....

so he brings it too me and and it wont run! i look under seat. one battery is burst open...this is obvious ...and 2 other batteries have like 6 washers under the connection and rusted bad.'

so my question is ...using common sense it looks to me he needs 3 batteries!!

but because the washers are there do i assume they are bad???

is this common practice to fix posts?

thanks

Sure you can repair posts, but since one battery was bust open, they are probably pretty old. I would go ahead and get some new batts...

It is always best to replace all of the batteries at once. It is not good to put a couple new ones in with old ones. The old ones will get overcharged and the new ones will get undercharged.

Actually, The opposite of this happens. The charger is looking only for total voltage, around 63v on a 48v system. The older batteries in the mixed pack are slight to moderately sulfated and generally less responsive when it comes to recharging. The new batteries charge up and then continue to be charged waiting for the old batteries to bring their half of the pack up. As a result they are over charged.
You can do this, the result is the new batteries last about as long as the old ones. This can get you by, but cost you $ in the long run.

I hope this helps
