DPI Accusense charger and OBC bypass procedure

I have 97 48v CC DS series cart. The OBC is bad. I would like to know how to remove the OBC and be able to use the DPI charger.

The instructions are "lack luster".

They say to, "add a wire from the neg of the last battery in the pack to the negative line coming from the back of your charger handle receptacle."

Can I totally remove the OBC and throw it in the trash? If so how.

I like their write-up but it's only about half of what you need. They're telling you how to bypass the charge circuit of the OBC. You might as well bypass the entire thing so you can remove it and throw it away. . Without the OBC installed, the solenoid won't get a ground to the coil, therefore it won't click. The OBC provides ground to the solenoid coil via the small yellow wire. Remove the small yellow wire from the solenoid and install a new wire from this location to the B- post of the controller. This gives you a hard-wired ground connection that is not dependent on the OBC. You may now trash it.

FYI... you may wonder what the brown wire is used for. It's for the Amber light in the dash. It's not crucial to have this wire hooked up to anything. Your amber light will not function without an OBC

Yeah that's the control circuit mod, but it doesn't show the charger receptacle.

Sorry to sound so green/newbish but can you post a pic or explain it in laymens terms.

My understanding is use a 10gauge wire from the negative of the charger receptacle to the #6 battery negative post. Then one more from the -B on the controller to were the yellow wire is on the solenoid.

Is this correct?

Yes. But you don't have to use such a large wire from the controller to the solenoid. It's just a ground wire for the solenoid coil and doesn't carry a load. 16-18 gauge wire is fine here.

I'm considering getting one of these accusence chargers as my cart can and will sit for longer periods of time while I'm back at work on ship and/or during the winter months and I'd like to keep my new Crown batteries in top shelf shape for as long as I can. In removing the OBC on an Excel cart I'm guessing that I would require the same jumper for the solenoid except mine would carry a different color code according to the wiring diagram that I have.... Other than wiring the plug into the battery bay as described above in this thread there should be nothing else to it correct?

Also thinking about mounting the charger in the bag well and adding a retracting cord for plugging into the wall... What y'all say?
