36 to 48 volt
I am looking at an older Club Car, maybe 84-88. If it is a 36 volt, would I need to replace the motor and controller to upgrade to 48 volt? I know the solenoid needs to be changed and I would upgrade the wires. I just want to know if I would be able to drive it until I saved up for controller and motor upgrade.

I upgraded mine to 48 without doing anything other than using 8 volt batteries. Granted the solenoids will eventually burn out , BUT you can usually drive it for quite a while before that happens. I`ve been on the same motor now for about 2 years.

Thanks, that sounds great. I was afraid I wouldnt be able to ride, but know I can if nothing is wrong with the cart.

If your cart has a controller in it now, and it is not rated for 48v your will burn it up quickly. Controllers are very voltage sensitive. Motor should be fine at 48v.

'88 was a resistor cart. (good for 48v) 84 was a 5 solenoid cart ( not so good for 48v )

2002 DS with the single solenoid and resistors in front of the motor should be a good candidate for a 48V then ?

I didn't know they made resistor carts that late? Can you post a picture of the cart and the resistor bank?

I'll grab some pics of the bank tonight when I head back to the camp and post on Sunday.
From what I see, single solenoid down below the F/R switch in front of the batteries, and a tray of (5?) resistors behind the seat/batteries in front of the motor. |
