Default 48 cc powerdrive question

I have a powerdrive II charger that I rerouted the wires according to post I found here. I am trying to hook this up to a 48 volt pack out of the cart and get a huge spark when I add the negative cable to the battery post. It literally melted the 5/16 stakon connector. Is this something ordinary that I would have to use some sort of a plug to connect? I checked and rechecked my wiring, thanks.

I didn't state I rewired due to not having obc, I want to charge a pack that is not in the cart. Is this spark normal? Do I need toconnect through a plug?

The plug or lack of one - would not make a difference. It sounds like you have something shorted out. I have charged many set out of the cart. I have an old recepticle with two leads that bolt onto the batts as factory would....I make all the DC connections and then plug the AC in...

What I did was series all of my batteries, coming out of my charger I had a cable with 5/16 lugs on it. When I attempted to hook these up(ac disconnected) it sparked something fierce. I'm thinking that the heavy plug makes this connection eliminating the sparks.

I was talking about the cart jumping that dirt hill in your avatar picture.

Do you have a voltmeter? You have something hooked up wrong there. The heavy plug will not make a difference. The spark is telling you that the circut is complete, (pos to neg) which you don't want.

Yes, I have a voltmeter, my batteries are hooked up correctly. I guess I need to find the post that takes relay from powerdrive charger and check what I did. This is the only thing I can think of that could be wrong.

Yeh, it sounds like the trouble may be in the charger.
