2004 club car precedent batteries and charging

I recently bought a 2004 Club car precedent knowing it had weak batteries. A few weeks ago after talking to a friend he referred me to a guy who could get me some group 31 RV Marine batteries (sealed) at about half the cost of the Trojan's which were in there. I only use the cart for light use around a drag strip and was told they would be fine. I have installed them and they seem to be working fine (power and longevity) used it for a couple full days and still was running fine. My question is when I hook up the charger and plug in after a few seconds it turns on and is around 15 and slowly goes down but after a hour or so the batteries are bubbling loudly. Is the factory charger supposed to be used with these batteries? Also how often should I charge them? Sorry about the long post just wanted an accurate description.

You sealed batteries will not last with that kind of charging cycle. They are not designed to be overcharged.

Any suggestions on how to charge them? Can I hook up a battery charger to the positive post on battery 1 and the negative on battery 4 and charge them all together with a car charger? I have a Optima battery charger.

Do you have 4 - 12 volt batteries, or 6 - 8 volt batteries?

You need to get a charger designed to charge sealed batteries.

They are 4 12 volt batteries.

Using an automotive type charger you can charge each battery individualy, or make up different cable connections to wire the batteries in parallel, and charge the 4 batteries as "one" 12 volt battery.

Before I converted our Precedent to 6 - 8 volt batteries, I did the wiring change, and charged the string as one 12 volt battery. (I was having trouble with the OBC & charging the batteries). Kind of a pain 'cause the 48 volt wiring has to come off, the 12 volt configuration installed, charge the batts., and then switch back to the 48 volt wiring.

What class are you running at the drag strip?
