Default Replacement Seat Cover Question

For those who have replaced their seat covers, did you install them over the old or did you remove the old then install? Just curious because I just received a set I ordered from Up To Par.

All the ones I've seen are installed right over the Stock vinyl.

Shoeless just did his and as you can see he removed the old. I would think taking a look at the foam would be smart, and if the new is a replacement cover it probably will not stretch over the old. But I am talking out of turn since I have not done it. I just today cleaned mine up and hopefully it will last a few years more. Good Luck and However you proceed show us some photos of the project...

IMO...you should always remove the old covers. I always have and have no regrets. I think the instructions that came with my first set stated to not cover the old. I've seen carts where the new was put on over the old and the pattern of the old showed through. My 2 cents.

The instructions with mine said to remove the old but I thought I remembered reading some threads where people were leaving the old ones on so I wanted to see what the consensus was.

I put the replacement skins over the original covers. The originals had no rips or tears, and installation was easy.

I have always removed the old seat cover as it was always split. If you don't and it is split, it will show thru. If you are just changing color you could just go over the old one, but I still think removing first is best.

I decided to remove the old covers because they had a pattern on them that I didn't want to show through. It probably wasn't totally necessary but I'm 3/4 of the way through replacing them so it's too late. The worst part is taking out the old staples, I think there are 100+ per seat. I'll post up pics once I finish, which I hope to do tonight.

So funny you talked about that. After your post I looked under my seat to see if there was different fabric. It looked to be only the single cover. But man, I thought i do not want to take those million staples out and IF I do this one day i'll purchase an electric, right?. I feel your pain!!
