Bandit motor
I have a bandit motor out of a IQ cart I was thinking about selling. Before I sell it, I would like to know if it is still good. I don't want to sell it for a good motor and it might be bad.
Last year I bought a complete set of new batteries and I was doing a break in run when I heard a sizzle-pop. The cart shut down with me. I thought it was the motor that went out. It was pretty warm, almost hot. I was dishearted at first but I had been wanting a torque motor anyway. I ordered a D&D torque motor to replace the bandit motor. I had to change the field map in my controller for the new D&D motor. That is when I found out that the 500 amp Alltrax controller was fried. Thank god Alltrax made it good. Is there any way I can check to see if the bandit motor is still good? It is just setting in my shop and I would like to get it gone. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Greg |

Re: Bandit motor
TEST RUN A MOTOR
To test run a series motor Remove all cables from the motor; connect a jumper from A1 to S1. Connect 12 to 24 volts, positive @ A2 and negative @ S2. Swap S1 and S2 to change rotation direction. To test run a Sep-Ex (regen) motor Remove all cables from the motor; connect a jumper from A1 to F1 and a jumper from A2 to F2. Connect 12 to 24 volts, positive @ A1/F1 and negative @ A2/F2. Swap F1 and F2 to change rotation direction. NOTE: some Sep-Ex motors are labeled S1 & S2 in place of F1 & F2 CAUTION: Allowing a motor to spin @ high RPM can cause catastrophic failure! |

Re: Bandit motor
Make sure you install this motor before you do this! If you don't you're gonna really tear it up good. The armature drags on the field coils if it's not installed. It relies on the input shaft of the transaxle to hold the armature centered in the motor and keeps it from dragging.

I love it. Great pulling motor. I've been up hills that I would have never thought it would go. I have it setup on torque/speed setting. If I set it up just as torque, it would probably bring the front tires off the ground.
