Default Help with shutting down

I have a 2008 electric club car. I charged the batteries this morning to take my grandaughter out for a drive in the neighborhood. As i began to accelerate at a very slow speed, the cart suddenly shut down just for a second and then began to move again. It did this a couple of times. Later I'm moving at moderate speed and it cutoff again. I let off the pedal for a second and it moved as soon as I depressed the pedal again. What could be the cause of this? I really appreciate your thoughts!
