Spider Gear Problem Kawasaki transaxle
99 Club Car Series cart, it has had some noise for awhile but now it is major noise and does not drive right, like something is rubbing or binding.
I pulled the motor, zero issues.. Pulled the as the bad ratcheting noise was coming from within. The axle is a Kawasaki model. Split the case and began going through each component, there are NO gear mesh issues and all bearings are perfect, no issues.... HOWEVER.. Isolated it to being the actual spider gears. When the gears that the axles slide into are butted up close to the carrier housing there is not much of an issue or noise but they if they move ever so slightly in and there is a bad ratcheting noise and everything binds. I can simulate this at will as you will hear in the video, major Ratcheting noise and you can feel it not turning smoothly... but.. When inspecting the gears there is no obvious signs of wear on them, so i can't figure out what the problem is, but it is for a fact obvious that it IS the spider gears.... Help, Suggestions? Part Numbers? Video..http://www.flickr.com/photos/90413041@N07/8776866136/ |

Re: Spider Gear Problem Kawasaki transaxle
Wow! I've never seen anything like that. I'd suggest replacing the entire carrier assembly but it's been discontinued. I suggest a good used Graziano drive unit.

Re: Spider Gear Problem Kawasaki transaxle
Yea, kinda of my thoughts, but here is what I did to see where it gets me.... Cleaned and lubed everything, replaced the gear oil with 40 wt, replaced the bearings on the input shaft and put a motor centering kit on. Doesn't do anything to address the spider gears but will tell me if it was just a fluke because it was not installed and no diff oil, simply rolling the axle on the ground and simulating turning, I am hopeful...
