Default 36volt club car running at 40volts

I was checking Craigslist today and a saw a Club Car cart that had 5 8volt batteries in a 36volt cart.

Never mind what charger you would use. Would it work with out frying the electronics? Its only 4 volts more I guess run times would be shorter.

Things that make me go hmmmmm.....

I am guessing that would not work for very long if at all...

One thing your over looking is, 5 x 8 volts do not add to 40 volts, a fully charged 8 v battery is 8.49v, if you add that up , 42.45, and as said i don't think it will last long before something burns up,

If he is charging it with a 36v charger he will only have a 36v pack.

I always thought a 36 volt charger went to 42 - 43 volts

A36V charger will shut off early if you try to charge a 40V pack with it. It will probably get it mostly charged but it won't equalize the pack properlly.

It takes them up that high during the last phase of the charge cycle, but once the charger finishes its job the pack will quickly settle to a normal 100% soc of 38.22 (or slightly higher).
