Calling all Battery gurus
I am trying to get a handle on my battery pack condition before I start upgrading anything else. Just did a load test
batteries were fully charged or should have been and set for about 7 hrs off the charger. Pack voltage was 51.2V hard acceleration dropped to 44.2 Bat 1 8.5/7.7 Bat 2 8.4/7.5 Bat 3 8.5/7.5 Bat 4 8.4/7.6 Bat 5 8.4/7.6 Bat 6 8.4/7.6 Road it yesterday afternoon about 9 mile and when we got home the pack voltage at cruise was 7.6V. What should I expect....Also after and extended ride the only thing that gets hot is the motor. Not cooked hot but hot enough that you want keep hand on it much longer than it would take you to count to 20. |

Re: Calling all Battery gurus
It looks ok, I i do not understand the problem?
Also if you change your meter you will get a more accurate two decimal point reading. Full chareged new bats after eight hours I think are 8.49 |

Re: Calling all Battery gurus
Just trying to be sure. I keep reading where that if everything is in good order a cart should run 20-30 miles on a fresh charge then you hear do not run them below 50% and mine is below 50% at 6 or 7 miles. I want to upgrade to get more speed and I don't want to throw money in the wind. I am having a hard time gathering hard facts about my cart. I want 25-30 mph and don't know I can get it out of mine. Seems to be quite a few folks around with 25mph cart that came that way from dealers and I want to know what makes theirs different .

Re: Calling all Battery gurus
New motor gets you 25 easy. Remember these are golf carts, a golf course is max 5 miles start and stop. You are wanting something beyond like a lot if peeps here. I do not know how far a cart will go but if you drain the bats down they will not last as long, that is the way it is. Speed at 25 to 30 is no problem, going long mileage is a different story.

Re: Calling all Battery gurus
A friend of mine has a 48v ezgo that he bought new 3 or 4 yrs that will spin the tire when it takes off and will run close to 20 on factory tires. Like I said I am just trying to get a better understanding of what make one faster than the next. If I had done my homework better I would have a faster cart to start with. I rode a lifted ezgo PDS cart with the so called speed chip and it would run a little over 20. I see a wide variety of HPs as well as RPM ratings. Just like I thought torque was instant on electric motors but mine will roll 4 or 5 feet before you feel any real torque then it picks up great till it flattens out at 14-15mph. Like others I know what I want, I am just looking for the least expensive way to get there. Thanks for the input.

Exactly where are you trying to get to?

Re: Calling all Battery gurus
Speed chaser... I bought as is and it seems to be in good shape. The cart is a 48V 2000 DS and according to all the diagrams it is a power drive plus regen II, It has the three wire pig tail on the back of the motor. As far as I can tell everything is stock except for having 22" tires and #4 cables. You ask where I would like to be.. I live in the country so it will be ridden on mostly flat hard ground, nothing real steep but some gradual inclines from to time. Having said that to be honest I would like to be able to get as much speed as I can afford out of it without sacrificing a lot of range. I am at 14-15mph now with just me on it. I would like to get at the very least 20mph out of it but shooting for 25-30 if I can afford it. I don't mind spending a little money to get there but I am trying it avoid throwing money parts that are not going to help. I have seen post where guys spend 500-1000 bucks and gain 2-3mph. Now that would make me sick. Not knowing any more than I do about carts, I am just trying to be careful. Forum like BGW are such a valuable resource and I am ask question that seem simple to a lot but it is a part of the learning curve to me.
P.S. and it is highly possible I bought the wrong cart for what I want to do and I need to know this before I start throwing money at it. Thanks again. |

Re: Calling all Battery gurus
Thanks Clubcardude. helpful info. I spoke to Alltrax yesterday and they told me I should pick up 6-8mph if I go to a 400amp controller and 200amp solenoid. I am not sure but your motor may be rated at a higher rpm than mine.
