Batteries Not Taking Full Charge 05 DS IQ
Good morning,
I tried searching for my concern but I couldn't find anything specific. The cart is a 05 DS IQ with 6 8 volt Sep 2010 Batteries, Excel. Also one of the Excel batteries is 6 months newer. All of the wires on the cart have been replaced and the cart runs much better, I have a stainless steel bolt going through the OBC. The charger is a powerwise II, the charger works good and always shuts off. My concern is when I read the pack I'm only getting 50.4 after a charge and all of the batteries individually only read 8.1 or 8.2. But the 6 month newer battery will read 8.5 or 8.4. Should I reset the OBC? I also have other chargers I could use? All of the new wires are 1G crimmped and soldered. I'm assuming the stainless steel bolt is OK to go through the OBC? All the wires are tight and everything is clean. Thanks, Steve |

Re: Batteries Not Taking Full Charge 05 DS IQ
Check the battery pack voltage when it nears the end of the charge or just after it shuts off. The charger should take the pack to about 65 volts. Then the voltage will settle down after several hours or so to regular full voltage.
Its possible you have bad bats and they are not capable of taking a full charge. I would think in this case that the charger is shutting off automatically regardless of the voltage reading of the pack. OBC? Maybe, could try a reset. |

Thanks Speedchaser, I will have to check that out. Side note I did remove the batts from another cart. Are we suppose to reset an OBC everytime the batts are replaced/switched? I thought I read the OBC learns? the batts?
Thanks, Steve |

That new battery may be part of the problem. As SpeedChaser recommended, check the total pack voltage near the end of the cycle, but then check each individual battery. That new battery will likely be upwards of 11 volts and gassing a lot.

I never reset the obc and have never had a problem replacing bats. But one bad bat would prevent the cart from taking a full charge and will over charge the good bats, like Sergio said.

Re: Batteries Not Taking Full Charge 05 DS IQ
Thanks guys, so another stupid question. How do I determine what battery (s) are bad? Have each battery load tested? can I aligator clip my multi meter to each battery? and make 8 different runs? What setting should the multi meter be on 300 or 200 dcv?
Thanks, Steve |

Re: Batteries Not Taking Full Charge 05 DS IQ
As far as testing each battery, yes use alligator clips, clip to each battery and make 6 runs. The meter should be set at the 20 volt setting (or the nearest available in your meter) for best accuracy.
You should also test each battery near the end of the cycle, that good battery maybe be getting so high that will not allow the other batteries to raise to proper charging and/or equalization voltage. |

Re: Batteries Not Taking Full Charge 05 DS IQ
Sergio,
Thanks I meant 6 runs. So I will see the bad battery drop down to? or all the good one will be about the same and the bad one will really stick out? Thanks, Steve |

Re: Batteries Not Taking Full Charge 05 DS IQ
Since the load would vary, I would go with the "bad one will stick out" principle
