Default Lestronic II Charger question

I have a 36V Lestronic II charger, never tried to use it before, brand new Interstate batteries.
I ran the cart down to around 36.5 V (80%) and am now starting the break-in process. The charger has a nice healthy buzz that quiets down after about an hour. Measuring around 18 amps at the connector. Pack voltage is the same weather on charge or not. Charger is definitely getting hot, not too hot to touch, but hot. Ammeter is not functioning at all.

Any other way I can test to see if the charger is working?
I'm going to leave it on all night tonight, but I may not sleep all that well.

Pack should definately read differently when charging than when it is not.

Measuring 18 amps at the connector......ammeter is not functioning at all.....

How are you measuring the current? Using an external ammeter?

The charging current will normally start at about 18-20 amps if the pack is discharge to any degree at all. Depending on depth of discharge, the current will begin to drop off, declining quicker or more slowly, depending again on D.O.D. Eventually, the current will drop to near zero and hold there. As the pack charges, the voltage will rise, approaching 43+ volts. The charger will eventually shut down.

+1 on this. Just used the troubleshooting guide to figure out that my Mom's dead charger just had a bad capacitor. Got one off eBay and got it installed this afternoon. Now the charger works perfect. Great info on the Lester site.

In addition to the other posts, make sure your charging leads are connected properly! The white wire on the charger should be + and the black wire -. The charger should get warm, not really hot.

Went through the troubleshooting guide and it appears to be the capacitor.
Can't find one on-line so I'm going to check with the mnfr tomorrow (Ronken).
Hopefully they can sell me one direct.
