Looking to purchase a Club Car 48v
Looking at buying an electric Club Car 48v. I have a choice of 4 12s or 6 8s. It is a 08 year model. I know my next question is probably a little bit harder not knowing the specifics. How long do the charges last in terms of miles? I suspect I will have at the beach(we can ride there) alot this summer and in my neighborhood other times.
Oh it is lifted(6 inch?) with 22 or 23 inch tires. How fast do these things run anyway? Seems to have some good get up a go. Not to make my choice even harder, I have the choice of gas too - same setup - its an 08 or 09 DS model. Looks cooler than the electrics. It seems to be peppy too but slower top end or so it seems. Gets there quicker but planes out. What are your thoughts on my choices. Thanks in advance. --Mickey |

imho... 6x8v will be a good choice as to how far it will go ... to meany variables to say .. larger tires and weight of people also flat ground or hilly ... again speed is hard to say 20mph average ? gas or electric is always a good debate .. me i like the quiet electric i would take both for a test drive to help decide |

So what to look for on the test drive; the drive seems to feel ok considering height and tires. Throttle seemed to be pressed good ways down to get going. May be that I am just not used to a cart. Fortunately I can mix and match colors tires etc for electric which is a plus to buy what I want. Thanks again. --Mickey |

6x8 's gives you a small advantage in drive time.. but weight more .. on take off it is sluggish , just the way electrics are ... on test drive check basics , steering, brakes , lision to motor, rear-end and hubs .. should be quiet ...check extras .. lights ,horn, mirrors

I just picked up a club cart precedent over the weekend, with new 4x12 v batteries, lifted, backseat, big tires, etc. I got the yellow battery light At about 15 miles, though by the feel of the cart I bet I could have gone a few more. Mine has a "speed chip" according to the previous owner, and will hit 22 mph on the street. Here's a pic. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD |

Re: Looking to purchase a Club Car 48v
I have a suggestion on the Gas V/S Electric decision as the choice may already have been made for you with what you are wanting the cart for:
Check the ordinances & regulations for the areas you are wanting to ride in. Some places do not allow gas carts due to the noise and fire hazard they present in tall grass & weeds. As for the 8 volt V/S 12 volt decision, I have personally had longer run times with six 8 volt batteries over four 12 volt batteries that were in similar make and model golf carts that I used to maintain at work. As I said, that was my own personal experience and I'm sure someone has had good experiences with 12 volt batteries too, but I'm going to recommend the 8 volt batteries. I hope this helps, -Scott H. |

What I did see in your reply was the yellow battery light comment. I suspect that is what I saw the dash of what I test drove. When that light comes on, what kind of reserve does this indicate? Are there better alternatives to measuring power that can be done real-time...like a meter? I read something on testing voltage and SG(specific gravity) which wouldn't be feasible while driving. :) Thanks for the reply and comments. --Mickey |
