Default pot box wiring help

I just upgraded an 85 CC to controller pot box with single solenoid the hot wire out of the micro onn the pot box melts when I get about 50 feet I know both wires are hot one hot in one hot out maybe wired to wrong leg of solenoid don't really know

IMO the simplest way to wire the solenoid activation microswitch is:

36 volt positive to common on the micro......Normally open on the micro to small terminal on solenoid.......the other small terminal should go to 36 volt negative. Under NO circumstances should you ever ground to frame. That is the simplest way but it is not like factory.
