F = .257 in so a 1/4 inch drill bit will get you the closest at .250
sold in tap sets

Crash, thanks for that info on the bit.

Can you clarify :

You drill the hole with your F bit, 3/4" deep.

THEN, do you still use a tap? I thought at that point you just let the wood threads on the stud thread itself into the hole?

yes only 3/4" deep
no tap needed .. the "wood" side goes in the hole in the center of lead post ... it will self tap down to the first nut
then use two 9/16 wrinches to take top nut off
do not use high speed drill in the lead ( will grab and break bit ).. slow and steady .. also clean drill bit when full of lead curly cues

do you think i should make a video ??

A video wouldn't hurt. Remember some of the folks here a CPA's and such.

Tip- Wrap a piece of tape around the drill bit 3/4" from the end to know when to stop.(sorry Crash, I forget about post #14)

Food for thought on Battery Terminal cables, nuts to use and torque settings in regards to Trojan Batteries. Note that they do not recommend any washers including lock washers, just standard hex nuts or half thickness lock nuts if in high vibration applications.

BTW, thanks for the info Crash :)

Had similar experience this spring on our first camping trip. I thought I was done for the week till a nice older guy came over and suggested we drill a hole in the terminal then run a 5/16 x 3/4 self tapper in it worked great, is still working perhaps I should do this it would be a more permenant fix
