Batteries leak out of speedy caps?
I just got a 06 club car precedent 48 volt electric golf car with 12 volt us batteries. The cart sat all winter Until i got it last weekend. I charged it the first night we had the cart then filled the batteries up with distiled water. I use the battery water bottle to fill the battery's up so I would not over fill them. We have used the cart 1-2 hrs every day so charged the cart ever night.
Here's the question- I keep getting water or acid coming out the speedy caps on top of the battery's. is this normal? I never had a electric cart before, I don't think it should do this. I checked the water in each cell and it is about 1" below the top of the battery. Bad caps, charger charging to much, or not to worry about it? |

Re: Batteries leak out of speedy caps?
Someone else might chime in as we'll, but when I was having this issue with my 6v's, it turned out the caps had gotten bad and would allow the liquid to come out on top of batt's. can't hurt to try and replace one and see what happens.

Re: Batteries leak out of speedy caps?
I would say to much water....... water level should be 1/2" above plates...... if your already at that point then it has to be caps leaking . I don't have any water/acid coming out of my batteries .

Re: Batteries leak out of speedy caps?
Check your water levels immediately after charging the batteries! As they charge, they will get warm and the chemical conversion that occurs while charging will expand the fluid. You should have the levels at the end of the charge cycle about ¼" below the split indicator in the fill hole.

Re: Batteries leak out of speedy caps?
I set the water level to 3/8" about the plates and no more water on top of the batteries. I used a bolt with a line on it to know where to set the water height it worked good.
