Default Motor failure

Not sure how I even made it home, was coasting downhill when all of a sudden some loud clicking noise from rear and erratic running, first I thought the brakes had failed but the burnt electric smell was a sign of something more serious, made it home slowly with no prob after a quick check of wires and controller on pulling out the motor the problem was obvious. So what failed and caused all this damage? Could this be linked to my earlier posts about jerky erratic takeoff s that I thought was alltrax issues? So where to now? Do I buy new armature or whole motor? Or do I upgrade to complete new performance motor? Not sure of my options way down here in Australia.
