OBC and 2 gauge

I had been researching on what gauge cables to get. I am redoing The cart slowly. Just upgraded to 2 gauge wire set. I only found 2 problems going to 2 gauge THAT I KNOW OF. first is the F/R SWITCH. Behind the switch is the white and blue wires. They sit in a u shaped cradle so it can set flush against the cart wall. 2 gauge wont fit that u shape cutout. I had to lightly grind that out a little bit bigger. Second and most important is the cable going through the obc. Contrary to other posts. 2 gauge wont go through. I have read a lot of post on using the adaptor for the obc. I went out and bought the supplies at lowes to match what others have posted on the adaptor and of the picture Scottyb has on his site. I CAN SAY IT REALLY WORKS. I was worried at first but when all was done and I connected the wires back and got on to ride it was awesome. Where we camp and at our home we have several long steep grades to drive up. before! it would be real sluggish by the time it got to the top. Today! it never slowed up. WHAT A DIFFERENCE THE 2 GAUGE WIRES MAKE. Thanks to everybody and there post. it helped me totally. NEXT on the list is to upgrade the motor and controller.

I did the same but with 0gauge .. cables never get remotely warm

Its the first time we can push the pedal down and the tires actually squeal. it gave it a lot more torque.

I couldn't find threaded stainless steel rod so I got a 5/16" all thread stainless steel 3" bolt. Cut the end off. inside the obc I used 3/4 inch rubber lineman's tape. You can wrap it 2 times. any more than that and it wont fit through the hole. then I use rubber washers against the obc on both sides. then nylon washer then metal washers. I used stainless steel nuts and washers as well.

Did you mean you cut off the excess on the bolt. It look like you left the head intact like I did. You can use brass and it is not that hard to find. It is more conductive than steel.

No all I could find was stainless steel lag bolts. I wanted to be able to take the cables off from both ends. I took the sawsall and cut the bolt head off. That way I can disconnect the cables from either end if needed. With 2 gauge cables 3" rod is just enough for everything. It might be wise for others looking at doing this to maybe go with a 4" rod. I don't know if there are different size thickness lug ends. But for 2 gauge its just enough room.

Gotcha. I used a bolt and hope I don't need to take the cable off very often.

Or you could have left the original cable in place and route around it with the new.
