New diode set... still trips breaker...
I replaced the diode set and my charger still pops the breaker. It's a 01 48v dl
.. All batteries together test at 40.x volts (around 7.8 each or 8.0 each...) I was wondering... may I have a bad circuit breaker? Can I buypass it? what will I smoke? thanks |

Re: New diode set... still trips breaker...
So....your battery pack voltage is 40.x volts.....and they are all 7.8-8.0 volts. Something doesn't add up. Do you only have 5 batteries?

Re: New diode set... still trips breaker...
Sounds like you have a battery out of the loop, if the charger is trying to put 48v into 40 vs of batteries then you will trip the breaker continously. Look on the passenger side of your car and see if that red wire from the charger receptacle goes to the same post as the red wire that goes to your solenoid, if not, make it so..
Otherwise, you have a bad battery. To answer your question, yes those circuit breakers are notorious and breaking. I wouldn't just bypass it, the breaker is tripping for a reason. I would look into buying a new c.b. they aren't expensive. If it's been tripping a bunch its weakened, more than it was when it was new lol. |

Re: New diode set... still trips breaker...
Ok, I have it charging. It evidently was indeed the diode. and I used my multimeter like an idiot....... anyway, The only issue I have now is that in the morning the charger was still running... is it normal to have a charger run for 8 hours? thanks

Re: New diode set... still trips breaker...
8 hours should be max for a completely drained set of batteries, keep a close eye on the charger to see that it shuts off automatically shortly after dropping below 5 amperes, a more experienced cartsman will chime in and let you know exactly how long. A normal charge should not be more than 3-5 hours, give or take.

Re: New diode set... still trips breaker...
16 hours the car should do an auto shut off. When your charger goes into a DVDT (maintenance) mode the charger is shut on, and shut off multiple times. So just because you see it on for 11 hours doesn't mean it was that way the whole night.

Re: New diode set... still trips breaker...
So the charger is set to kick off at 5 amperes?
Is this correct? thanks |
