Default Precedent Drums out of round?

Anyone have a way I can check to see if my drums are out of round. The brakes were auto adjusted up so tight that the cart would not roll. I took the drums off and clean the adjusters and greased the slides and got then back in the correct position. Now the cart will roll and will still stop as required under brake pressure. However the brakes "Pulse" as if the shoes were only making contact on one side,... very similar to car brakes where the rotor is warped. How can I prove they drums are out of round before or order new ones????

take it to a shop that turns drums and have them check them if you don't have a Brake Measuring Kit

Crash,..Thanks for the suggestions. There is a car dealer in town that does turn rotors and drums so I hope he will check them for me.

Trigger,

I was having a similiar prob on my DS 05 auto adjust brake system. My problem was that the drum wore down so much that the front of the shoe, outside edge when you look at them from the side was coming in contact 1st with the most inner edge of the drum Basically it would wear a 45% edge on the outside edge of the shoe. I just ordered new drums and shoes and didn't want to mess with it. I don't know if this makes any sense.

Thanks "Caokga",...my brake shoes seem uniform and are not worn that much. This may sound really dumb but I tried to check the inside diameter at 90 degree point to see if they were different. Used the best Stainless Steel ruler and the mm gauge. I of course could tell no difference and as I think about it an out of round drum by only be 1/2 to 1 mm and that was less than my measurement accuracy. I guess it will have to wait till I get downtown.

Measuring out of round is easy with he right tool. You need a vernier caliper large enough for your drum. Just measure seneral points across the surface and compare. Keep in mind out of round could be just a few hundredths off!

Kudaman,...Thanks for the suggestion. I have such a caliper but it won't handle the diameter of the Drum. That is a pretty special tool. What I have been looking for is comments from others on what to expect when the drums are out of round. The pulsing action I am getting when I apply the brakes is what I would expect. Any comments?

Pulsing is exactly what you should expect. If you feel it in the seat it should be the rear brakes, in the steering should be the front.

Kudaman,...pulsing is what I have and it not only in the seat be the entire carts. I don't know what you are talking about for front brakes as only carts built to drive on major highways have front brakes.

I only put that in there because I wasn't sure if the presidents had front brakes. Just change the drums and you should be good to go.
