Alltrax speed controller disappointment

Just got CC IQ decided to upgrade. Upgrades include plum quick bandit. Lift kit. 23 inch tires. Alltrax 500 amp.

Kart was going 25 mph with new PQ motor & stock controler on speed 4 setting.
Kart is now going 20 with new Alltrax contoler.
Has a little more torque off line but the power falls off and it does not top out like it used to.

Any help would be great.

Where did the controller come from. Was it set up for your motor?

I orderded the kit from Scottyb. Came with the solenoid. Maybe I need to check the programming. I can tell there is a lot more power available but its like the controller is holding it back. Reverse is super slow. I noticed that the 4 pin connector had no were to plug in. Does that matter?

I am to new at this to be giving much advise. But have talked to motor and controller folks and it seem that the controller has to be field mapped to match the motor to get the best performance. I am sure Scotty will address this for you, like a lot of other folks on the forum he seems willing to help anyway he can.

He sent me an email this morning telling me not to drive cart any more till I talk to him on the phone. I like you am new at this. I guess today I will have to find a cable to check program on controller. Thank you again for all insight in this matter.

I spoke with Scotty he explained the issue and even went as far to say that if I was unhappy that I could return unit for a full refund. That my friends is customer service.

Getting to the bottom of the problem Scotty suggest that I cut the turbo on, but that I should give Plum Quick a call 1st. Plum Quick motors prefer that Alltrax speed controler be programmed with turbo off. Because PQ has concerns with their motor getting to hot. I spoke with Plum Quick about why they wanted the controller programmed that way and what I could do or should do to get my speed back. They said to cut the turbo on and check temps of motor. They said I did not want the motor to get hotter than 190 degrees.

I cut the turbo on and changed my reverse speed from half to full throttle.
Made a huge difference, I gained some more top speed and a bunch more torque but it is still not quit as fast as my stock controller on the top end. Don't get me wrong it pulls hard as hell, it just seems like it could pull that hard all the way to top speed. My motor temps are cooler with the Alltrax, even in turbo mode.

If I had to break it down: its like the speed controllers are 2 stroke exhaust systems. My stock one gave my motor more power in the upper RPM's were as the Alltrax controller gave me allot more power in the lower RPM's.

I feel this is turning into a review.

I would like to say that the amount of torque that I gained form the speed controller is amazing. If my tires don't slip I will climb it. I took my wife out for a spin and we went to a hill behind the house and when I got to the bottom of it I stopped. Then I just floored it, about half way up the front tires came off the ground so high that I had to let off the gas. We got up the hill with my wife screaming don't do that again and I had the biggest grin on my face.

Thank you ScottyB and Plum Quick for one of those special moments were life is just plain fun.

To sum things up I would recommend Scotty or PQ for all your carting needs. Both were eager to help in any way they could.

Also, even though I have never dealt with PQ, I have heard nothing but good things about them as well...

Hopefully tomorrow I have time to install new voltage meter battery monitor. This way I can keep batteries in tip top shape and not run them down to low. I will post my thoughts when I have more seat time.

Update: Hooked my laptop to my Alltrax and decided to ride around and see what was going on. Come to find out I was only getting 90% Throttle. I played with the different throttle maps but could only get it to 98%. I did some research here at BGW. Come to find out there are custom throttle maps for CC and Alltrax speed controls so that you can get 100% Throttle. I downloaded CChex4 from this site and uploaded it to my speed controller. Wow what a difference. My cart is now going 30 MPH on slight hill.

Stock CC = 12-15 MPH
Stock CC with Bandit and speed code 4 = 24-25 MPH
Stock CC with Bandit and Alltrax, turbo off and linear throttle map = 19-20 MPH
Stock CC with Bandit and Alltrax, Turbo on and linear throttle map = 23-24 MPH
Stock CC with Bandit and Alltrax, Turbo on and Custom Throttle map = 25-26 MPH with 30-31 on slight hill.

I figured something was holding my cart back but I was not sure what the problem was. After reading these forums and learning from other people I was able to figure this out. Thank you BGW - ScottyB - Plum Quick.

Almost forgot. I installed voltage meter. Love it. Takes all the guess work out of deciding when to come back home. Makes monitoring my charge a lot easier. Thanks ScootyB!!!
