Default 05' DS very slow and sluggish

I recently bought an 05' DS that had old Trojan 875 batteries that would not hold a charge well, I just replaced my batteries with 8v crown CR-165 batteries and all new 4 gauge battery cables, I also installed a speed magnet that I purchased from BGW thread recommended supplier, The cart is slow It probably tops out at around 12 mph and hills are a crawl, I only cycled the batteries once since I installed them maybe they will get stronger after a few charge/discharge cycles? the speed magnet did nothing except disable my downhill motor braking, I do notice that my cart does not move until I press the gas pedal about half way down and then it seems as if the pedal is maxed out flat to the floorboard to get any decent speed, could it be a pedal/linkage adjustment? I tried to adjust the linkage directly under the pedal to allow more travel and all it did was change the starting position of the gas pedal to almost straight up and it still requires you press the pedal about half way before the cart will move. My family has a few more DS carts but the are earlier model years (94'96'00') and the gas pedals react much differently on those models, any suggestions? should I just buy and install the plum quick bandit motor? I would like at least a 20mph top speed on flat ground and a bit more hill climbing power...

Is it an IQ cart? It could be your MCOR acting up... It should start moving right when you push the pedal.

. . . looking thru floorboard, watch to see if MCOR input shaft begins to rotate as soon as you press GO pedal . . . mine did not due to wear of these two mating parts . . I replaced the GO pedal and MCOR input shaft to remedy my issue . . .

A few things about batteries, first you need to make sure they are fully charged.
You need a volt meter and reference chart in stickies. Then load test pack and individual batteries. Even though they are new one could be bad.

Also, new bats are usually only at 70 to 80% charge so you should have charged the pack prior to first use. I always keep my cart plugged in when not in use.

Yes, It is a IQ cart, I will check the MCOR shaft to see if it moves as soon as I press the GO pedal, maybe there is wear/slop there, Also I did charge the batteries after installing before use, I ran them down untill my LED battery gauge said about 1/3 left and then recharged the batts, they did charge the second time about 12-14 hours before the charger cycled off, any other suggestions to try? what is the voltage of a fully charged pack?

Anthen27,

The gas pedal linkage connected to the MCOR going right and then going left connecting to the parking break lock is a big deal! I just finished re doing the throttle gas pedal linkage on 2 ea 05 DS IQ's. If the linkage is not tight it can really create some issues with not getting full out put of the MCOR. If your gas pedal is loose, wiggles around more than a 1/4" sided to side your support bushing in the alum house bracket just left of the gas pedal looking fwd sitting in the seat is shot. Its a real pain in the BUTT !!! to remove the linkage rod that has the white nylon spacer on it. I ended up just cutting them off with a grinder and replacing them along with just one of the alum bushing supports. Both carts all of a sudden after these fixes came alive!

The CR165 is the smallest 8v battery Crown makes. CR190 would have been the OEM replacement. Expect shorter run times.

I tought the Crown CR-165 batteries are rated about exactly the same a Trojan 865's?

http://www.trojanbattery.com/pdf/trj...dspecguide.pdf

https://www.crownbattery.com/en/wp-c...cations-G1.pdf

in fact the are both rated exactly 117 min at 56 amps, and the Trojan is 63 lbs and the crown is 64 lbs (more lead) The battery wholesaler I bought the batteries from who sell both brands of batts said the are equal in performance, I don't think there is much difference between the 2 but thanks for input as I know your experience is greatly appreciated (scottyb), I am going to look into the go pedal linkage and bushings.........

Any chance the magnet you installed is causing the speed sensor to fail, putting the cart in slow mo?

Do the speed sensor test and see if it yells at you.
