Key switch

I just installed a power supply (48-12v),on my 2003 iq to run my fan and lights.
My question is could I switch it on and off through the key switch. I would switch the neg wire that comes off the batt pac. Could I just connect it to the switch along with what is there. Max load is 15 amp. On PS.

The key switch doesn't have a negative wire running to it, the key switch just switches positive 48v (or +36v for other carts). If you attempt to switch the negative wire for your converter using the factory key switch then sparks will appear.

I wouldn't use the +48v off the key switch either as the wire that feeds +48v to the switch is small can wasn't designed to handle the load of lights and a fan (15a) plus it's normal duties of running the motor controller and solenoids. You should use a 48v relay ($10 off ebay) to turn the converter on and off unless you've got a 4 wire converter then it already has a relay inside it.

I take it would be alright to control the 48v relay with the key switch. I just don't like leaving power to the power supply all the time. Hoping an extra relay would not be too much for the key switch.

A relay is a very light load, easily handled by the key switch. They are usually around 200ma (0.2 amps).

Did it come with a relay or you just wanting to use one? Mine is a 4-wire converter with one of the wires (yellow on mine) used to power the converter. I tied the yellow wire into the secondary side of the switch, so no accessories will run unless the switch is on.

This is the one I got. It is more of a regulator power supply. Works great. I wound up putting a seat switch on the drivers side to control power to it. That way you don't go off and leave the fan running or the lights on. Also the fan can be distracting to other golfers around the greens and tee box.

your reducer is rated 12vdc @ 15amps
so it would pull less than 4 amps from the key should be fine
