Default 83 conversion, hunting buggy.

I have a 83 that I am making into a hunting buggy. I have completely gutted, lifted, built racks and put 22" tires on, and I am planning on buying a solid state system from scotty. I am looking for battery advise, I would only be putting a max of 6-8 miles a day when i use it which would not be very often, mostly just goofing around the house. I would prefer to go with 12v batteries to save the room, weight and a little money, I have heard of some people getting 20plus miles of a set of 12v. Are these numbers realistic with my cart or do i really need to run 8v?

Default Re: 83 conversion, hunting buggy.

Along with shorter run time, you get shorter life span. That's okay as long as you are prepared to buy batteries again at 4yrs instead of 5. Also you will have to rebuild your battery trays to hold the 4/12v instead of just dropping 6/8v in. 48v is 48v the amount of lead you are packing determines the reserve capacity = run time.
On the positive side, anytime you can make the cart lighter you will get both performance and distance improvements. Hope this helps
