Default Club car ds can't get the steering wheel off

I am trying to replace a steering wheel but this cart does not want to let go of it's old one. Do they make a certain type of puller or something for these golf carts?????

You are not alone, many guys have had this problem... I personally have never removed a steering wheel from a cart, but I have heard PB blaster, mallets, and maybe even some sort of gear puller? Someone who has done it before should chime in...

I gave up on mine, Almost used the GREAT and powerful Sawzall.

I agree, I run the nut up to barely cover the threads, Then with one hand and my knees under the wheel applying up pressure, smack the nut with a large brass hammer, some are very stubborn.

I put some Kroil on mine and hit it a few good times with a 8lb dead blow mallet

I seem to recall reading a post where they added a couple washers between the nut and the wheel, then they took a wrench and tried to make it tighter. This seemed to break the wheel loose and then after remove the nut and washers, they were able to get it loose. At least that's how I think they did it.
Mine was hard to remove also, but a rubber hammer did the trick for me....

I'm trying to remove one now, so for nothing has worked. I really thought the knees under the wheel, applying up pressure, smack the nut with a large hammer, would do it, NOPE. So now I'm going after it with a 4" grinder with a cut off wheel. I'll cut the hub enough to split it and then I know it will come off! The sad thing is the wheel has been off before, someone put on a chrome column cover.

I got mine off, seriously by wacking the center section with mallet...HARD...5-6 times, **** thing just popped off...

Here's the link I read: (I uses TahoeDawgZ71's method)

This one talks about pullers:

I was hoping for more encouraging answers on this. I also have this job on my “To Do” list but I’m installing a wood grain dash and need to preserve the wheel.

I have a steering wheel puller but the wheel doesn’t have the threaded holes in the hub like automobile steering wheels.

What I planned to do was to drill some holes in a 2x3, one for the main screw and two to bolt down the body of the puller so it doesn’t turn. I will use a tie down strap to lash the HUB - NOT THE RIM of the steering to the 2x3 with the main screw in the center of the steering shaft. Crank down the screw, then tap and see what happens.

I’m not in a big hurry to do this, I have other priorities. If it works I’ll post about it.

Steering wheel pullers are cheap, but if you don’t want to buy one, you may be able to borrow one through the Autozone lend a tool program.

i run the nut to the end of the threads then place a ball point hammer at end of column and the smack that hammer with a bigger one 4 or 5 times then they just pop off
