Ok got new controller, BUT before I install it and possibly blow it too. I just remembered one other thing that happened. I was using a trouble light to see with when I first tried to start the cart after changing the first controller. Just as the cart started to move the wheels (up on jacks) The trouble light rolled over and did a very quick short between the A1 and F1 posts (small arc burn on posts) (metal on back of trouble light) and rolled on off to floor. Could that of blown out my controller? Could that short burst mess up my motor to the point that it will blow my new controller now? How can I check the motor before installing controller to make sure it is ok? I have one bad motor now that blows out the controller, Don't need that again!! Getting expensive!!

lol the plot thickens. Yes, I think this could have blown the controller. They are very sensitive.

There is a thread somewhere telling how to test motor. I cant find it now. Anyone?

Yes I had forgotten about the trouble light until I went out there today and grabbed it, and a light went on...in my head that is!! I saw that procedure about testing a motor and now I can't find it either.

Found it in one of my own threads:

The test you did with the motor in the cart, putting the coils in parallel, should have eliminated all of the conditions mentioned(unless you have some fancy compound motor...).
The shunt motor would run very slow at 24 volts, that should be normal.
To perform some bench testing:
Put your multimeter in a low ohms setting and test the following:
A1-A2 = low resistance.
F1-F2 = low resistance but it should be more than A1-A2
A1-F1 = open or infinite resistance.
A1-motor body = open or infinite resistance.
F1-motor body = open or infinite resistance.

Your controller is toasted. Absolutely no doubt about it. That's happened to me before when I was stripping down DS cars. I've had a locknut fall down between two posts and cook the controller with just a small spark.

Thanks David. I had totally forgotten about the trouble light until I went back out there today. The motor should still be good shouldn't it? The tests show it is.
