Default 91 CC DS Upgrade Project

I have a beautiful 91 club car ds that has been cosmetically upgraded with a custom paint job, upgraded dash, custom upholstery and lots of diamond plate.

She's a real looker!

Only problem is she's totally stock, and being a 91 she's tired.
Batteries are fairly new and she does run like she should.

I have spoke to Scotty @ CU about a year ago and will be purchasing my upgrade kit from him.

I understand what needs to be done to convert to solid state, I just don't completely understand what all of the options are. Then I look at the fact that the top of the line conversion is less than 200 bucks more than the basic.

My plans are to do the conversion and run at 36 volts until I can afford another stage, which would be 48v battery pack and charger. I would also consider an upgraded motor in the future as well.

I do want to bring it up to a pretty tuned cart over the course of the next couple of years. Making these mods in stages will work well as I purchased the cart for my 13yr old son 2 years ago and don't want to make it too fast too soon.

I'm also curious what I can do to the suspension other than simply replacing the shocks. Are there upgraded shocks?

Any ideas what type of performance I should expect from a conversion running a 36v?

Nice job!

I converted my stock 92 DS from 36v to 48v. I bought everything (Controller,Solenoid,Cables) from Scotty B and I am pretty happy.

I have tons of torque and speed. I am at 19-20mph with my gps and about 14-15 up hill with 3 people on the cart.

If you have the money, you will be pleased.

Just my opinion =)

What size controller did you go with? I don't understand what a bigger controller buys me exactly. Lots to learn.

I guess I'll go all in and get the 700 amp package. it's not that much more. I will also get the 2 guage cables and the fnr upgrade.

I do plan on going 48v next and possibly a modded motor. My community is very hilly. The cart is used in a country club community.

I just don't get the amp thing. I understand more= more power, I just don't understand where it comes from.

I will be buying from ScottyB. He has a great rep and earned my business when he gave me advice a couple of years ago.

Good deal!! Trust me you wont be sorry, but 1 thing you need 2 know is until you upgrade too 48volts there will not be a huge improvement if your lifting and running bigger tires....Been there done that, my batterys was only a couple months old when I did my upgrade and 1st lift with 22" tires and it was still weak on 36volts so I went and got 2 more 6 volt batts and was impressed with what the lil ole 2hp stock motor could do! I have a 2003 ford ranger 4x4 ext cab with a fiberglass camper shell on the bed and with the 6" lift n 22's it would pull the truck up hill.... Since then I've gone too a 7.5" lift and 26" tires and it still does alright but lost a lot of torque but that prob will be solved in 2 weeks when my plum quick rattle snake 2 motor gets too me....

One more thing if your planning on 48 volt upgrade soon I would have Scotty send ya the extra cables that you will need if your doing 8 6 volt batts.....Also you can do like I do and jump those 2 batts out of the loop n use your 36 volt charger to charge main pack and use a 12volt charger to charge the other 2, it takes me 2 min to have chargers set up and 2 mins to disconnect after charging, plus if you do it that way it realy shouldnt matter how old the other batts are as long as there still in good condition.... I paid 35$ for a referbished 12volt charger that has auto shut off, 10 amp charge, and deep cycle setting, Everytime I charge theres only minutes seperating when both chargers shut off

OK, Just got done ordering my Kit from Cartsunlimited.net. I did go with the 700amp FSIP based kit. 2g cable set and a heavy duty FnR switch.

It looks like I will be going to 48v as soon as I can put a few more frog pelts together.

I really don't have any plans for lifting this cart or putting larger tires on it. I'm going for more of a sports car look than a truck look.
