ATV jack/dolly for storage?
In the next couple of weeks I will be bringing my 1996 DS 48v home from my in-laws lake house to live with my family in our 2 car garage. To prepare I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to store it.
My garage IS oversized, and on paper I can get the cart and cars in the garage but its tight. The cart will have to be in a corner perpindicular to my car. To ensure that it is accessible I started looking at ATV jack/dolly combos. Has anyone done this and actually stored them off the ground on a movable dolly? I searched but didnt see any mentions of it. Do you think these would work? Would I need to build some sort of adapter to ensure the weight is distributed appropriately? I've been looking at these two: Harbor Freight and Lowes both are really good prices... Thanks! Mods - I wasn't sure where else this would fit. Please move if there is a better location |

Another idea you might think about if you're just trying to get if off its own tires is individual wheel dolly's..a little more expensive but work pretty good. Can roll it around and put it where ya need it!

Re: ATV jack/dolly for storage?
I've thought a little about that, but there are two things holding me back:
1. It needs to be simple and easy enough for my wife to at least get it off of the dolly so she can take our son (and any future kids) to various activities around our neighborhood. The jack/dolly combo would allow her to (hopefully), just pull it away from the wall, let it down and drive away. (I'm sure I'll end up with a nightly task of putting it back up). 2. the corner that it will go has about a 6 inch wide, 2 inch tall cement ledge against the wall. Having the wheels elevated would allow me to clear the ledge and maximize my parking space. |

You should just talk the boss into letting you build a garage out back for the toys!

Re: ATV jack/dolly for storage?
ATV jacks have tiny wheels on them, if your floor is really smooth it just might work. Two wheels are rigid, two swivel. The key will be figuring out the balance point and have jack fit there. I've never used mine on my cart, but I use it all the time to turn quads sideways in my enclosed trailer. Mine is from harbor freight, the yellow one, i think they have another one too. It has bolts you screw down to work as brakes if you want to make sure it doesn't turn when bumped. It's a bottle jack, so I'm sure it would lift the weight of the cart. Pumps up easy and releases with a foot lever. It has notches you use as locks progressively as you raise the jack. The handle has a pin for quick release, this awesome when you have to move around, and nice so kids so mess with the jack. Long story short, IMO it should work!

rib33024 - That is AWESOME!...but about $2,200 too expensive mmvanv - Thanks, I think I will try picking one up on CraigsList and will update in a few weeks on how it works! If it doesn't, I'll just resell it! |

What about buying one of those metal sheds. I know you around here you can pick them up pretty cheap. It would keep it out of the weather without spending an arm and a leg!
