Default Remove OBC with new charger?

I purchased ScottyB's charger and am wondering if anyone with the new charger has simply removed the obc. The instructions state to tap into the ground wire going to it and splice directly to batt pack negative but I was hoping to just remove the entire obc.

I think it depends on the year of your CC. I have read in some posts that the only thing the OBC does is controller the relay on the old chargers. But I have a 97 CC DS Serial and when I removed the ground going thru the OBC because I got a new charger, the cart would not run. I had to hook the OBC back up and it ran fine and so does the new charger.

I think your problem was because the neg. wire thru the OBC is the Neg. for the controller and if you remove it the cart will not run, however, you should be able to run a 4 or 6 gauge wire direct from the Battery neg. to the controller bypassing the OBC and it should work. You can then remove the OBC. You will also have to run a 16 gauge wire from the solenoid to the controller neg. or battery neg (its the yellow wire from the solenoid small terminal that goes to the OBC)

I never removed a ground. The problem was in charging. The ground wire going "into" the obc was not making a connection, therefore preventing charging. Once I ran that directly to ground, I could charge. The wire going through the obc was never changed.

I'm going to run the 16 awg from the solenoid to the speed controller neg and completely remove the obc. Paperweight? Now if only the cart would start working again. At least I have full battery charge :)
