My first cart was an old Legend with the same type of speed control as your (soon to be) CC. In 12 years, the only trouble was the solenoid and the pedal micro switch, each failed once, early on. Had no more trouble, and only bought one set of batteries in that time. Yeah, the resistors waste some power at slow speeds, but it isn't that bad.

1st speed - all resistor coils are glowing and in the circuit, bleeding off amps to turn the motor slower. 2nd speed (or next contact in v-glide) - drops out the 1st resistor coil from the circuit, allowing more amps (power) to the motor. The more pedal you push, the more resistor coils that drop out of the circuit, until at full pedal, you are bypassing all resistor coils and dumping all power to the motor for full power and speed. The 1 solenoid just activates the circuit. These things are bullet proof. Run it all day, just watch the slow speed driving (hot resistor coils) in very tall grass! ;)

Ok guys, I think I will buy it regardless if my neighbor wants it or not.
The thing is, I will be out of town tomorrow through Friday.
If he still has it when I get back, I'll make him an offer and see what happens.
Thanks for everyone's help!

Bummer! Yeah I bought a 1994a month ago myself. Totally stock but in great shape. Wasn't hip on the stock look so decided to make a little project out of it . Here she is:

The day I bought it.

A few cans of paint, lift kit, seat and Craigslist wheels :
